Wandering

Do you ever look around you and wonder at the mess our world is in today? It is hard to believe how far we have slipped as a nation in the years since I was young. It is unnecessary for me to prove my point…just read your newspaper.
What’s the problem out there anyway? Where do you suppose we got off track as a nation?
I want to remind you of a passage from the Scripture that reveals to us how we got it so awfully wrong. This particular passage is not as popular as the one before it, but nevertheless, here is the question it poses;

Psalm 2
1 Why are the nations in an uproar
And the peoples devising a vain thing?

Here we are repeating the same question that was asked millennia ago. What in the world is wrong with us? Why are we in such a state? Where have we gone wrong? Why has life degraded to such futility and vanity? Why does there seem to be no answer to the dilemmas we are facing as a nation?

The answer to our collective problem is as complex as it is simple. Here is what I see. We have raised ourselves up in pride and arrogance over the Lord God Himself! We no longer allow the influence of God’s presence in our institutions, our schools, our courts, our governmental agencies. God is no longer acknowledged in the public square, His directives are largely ignored and derided by men and women who have literally stolen our heritage from us. Wickedness, evil and Godlessness are not only condoned but encouraged by entertainment and the media. And what is the result of all these things? Before our very eyes the blessing of God is being removed from us as we become a nation of self-seeking, selfish and immoral people. We truly are among those who say;

2 The kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,

3 “Let us tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!” (NASB)

We’ll continue these thoughts in another installment…
