Read Philippians 3:8-14

I would not be giving the context of Philippians 3 the attention it deserves if I let the most important aspect of Paul’s attention slip by us.

Although there is a certain amount of repetition here before us this morning the truth is that one can change the focus on the context and come to even more truth the HS wants us to know.

Our changing focus here is like being in the mountains, sitting down and looking at the campfire, and then in a moment, lifting our eyes up from its warmth to behold the sun as it sets over the horizon through the trees.

Both the campfire and the setting Sun are beautiful and heartwarming but the farther look carries a deeper sense of place than the other. And so it is in the context of this passage. There is something for us to see and appreciate in the close view and something to appreciate in the far view as well.
