1 Timothy 5:17-22 – Struck By the Truth

Read 1 Timothy 5:17-22

I was driving to work a week ago Friday and as I traversed down Whittier Blvd,

as I approached La Serna, the light turned red and I stopped in the #1 lane.

In a few moments, the traffic to my left began to move, and so did I.

The only trouble with that is the lane on my immediate left is the left turn lane!

needless to say, the opposing traffic was also turning left, right in front of me.

Thankfully I woke up in time and graciously allowed the opposing left turners to complete their turns without further interruption! Iwasn’t struck, maimed or killed

(No one was hurt in the making of this illustration!)

Needless to say I have been a little more careful since then and certainly more alert.

The scripture that we are laboring over this morning contains a paragraph that at it’s core

is on a collision course with the normal way we do things. This little paragraph is a warning to us

to pay close attention to the way we do business as a church. Did you catch that warning as we read this passage?

Well, in case you missed it let’s read it again. It’s right there in verse 21…

“I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality.”
